What a micro datacenter actually is
A micro datacenter is the opposite of the hyperscale bet. Instead of concentrating hundreds of megawatts on one campus, it packs power distribution, cooling, networking and servers into a compact, self-contained facility that can be deployed wherever it makes the most sense — next to a wind or solar site, close to a city, inside an industrial estate. The distributed datacenter model trades sheer scale for placement: many small sites, each cheap to build, quick to commission and easy to site where land, energy and demand line up.
For AI workloads this is a surprisingly good trade. A modular datacenter full of 24–96 GB-class GPUs doesn't need a hyperscale shell; it needs clean power, solid fiber and tight operations. That is exactly what EponEdge builds in Belgium.
Sited where the energy is made
The defining choice in our architecture is siting at the grid edge — the distribution end of the network, next to renewable generation, rather than behind a transmission-scale grid connection. Grid edge computing turns a datacenter from a passive consumer into a grid asset: when clean power is abundant, our sites absorb it; when the grid is stressed, our lower-priority workloads step aside within seconds, acting as demand response.
That flexibility is not a footnote — it is the business model. It's why we can price three grid-aware tiers on identical hardware: Guaranteed (from $0.25/GPU/hr) rides through every grid event at full speed, Balanced (from $0.12) pauses only under severe grid stress (rare in practice), and Flexible (from $0.08) follows clean-power availability — the cheapest and lowest-carbon way to run a GPU on renewables. Paused instances resume with processes and GPU memory intact, and paused time is never billed.
Small footprint, serious engineering
Small facilities have honest advantages. Short power and cooling paths keep overhead low, and modest, steady heat output is far easier to reuse locally than the exhaust of a hyperscale hall. A distributed fleet also degrades gracefully: sites operate independently, so no single facility is a single point of failure for the platform. Physical security is handled the way small critical infrastructure is — unmanned, hardened, monitored sites with no public access, rather than a lobby and a badge desk.
Sovereignty is structural too. Every site is European-owned and operated, on Belgian soil, so the entire stack — building, hardware, operations — sits under EU jurisdiction. What runs inside
Each micro data center in Belgium hosts dedicated NVIDIA GPU nodes — RTX 3090 (24 GB GDDR6X), RTX 5090 (32 GB GDDR7) and RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell (96 GB GDDR7), each yours alone, not a marketplace slot. You get root SSH, JupyterLab and a full REST API, with per-second billing and no commitments: create an account, load prepaid credit and launch a GPU in minutes from the console.
